CURIS - Public Health Advocacy

CURIS (“cares” in Latin) is an undergraduate student organization at the University of Michigan dedicated to raising awareness about public health issues and enacting local change. We partner with community-based organizations and research groups throughout Southeast Michigan to work on semester-long projects that aim to provide community members with resources, education, and support to improve their health.

OUR VALUES

Equity

Understanding the high degree of health inequity in the world, we seek to focus on removing barriers to healthcare, amplifying marginilized voices, and ensuring community members are healthy in their neighborhoods.

Compassion

We are dedicated to working with the local community and continually educating ourselves to strive for a compassionate understanding of individuals' unique lived experiences and circumstances.

Partnership

By engaging in local partnerships, we are dedicated to fostering an environment where collaborative solutions and collective determination meaningfully impact our local community.

Humility

Public health is built by the community, for the community. We understand that everyone brings distinct experiences and perspectives to the table, and we strive to be open-minded and learn from others.

Why CURIS?

"[I] wanted to learn more about public health, wanted to incorporate public health into the shaping of my lens of medicine, and wanted to work with like-minded individuals to tackle the public health issues that are present on our campus."

Sarah Kim, Class of '28
